Gerhard Hindricks was born in 1960 in Rheine/Westphalia, Germany. He attended the Westfälische Wilhelms University in Münster where he completed his medical education in 1989. After graduation he worked under Professor Günter Breithardt as a researcher and medical assistant at the Department of Cardiology and Angiology at the University of Münster (1989 – 1998). In 1997 and 1999, Gerhard Hindricks passed the examinations for specialization in Internal Medicine and in Cardiology. Since April 1998, he works as co-director (initially) and then director of the Department of Electrophysiology at the Heart Center of the University of Leipzig. He is also entrusted with academic tasks since 2005, when he became a Professor of Medicine at the University of Leipzig. Dr. Hindricks is member of the German and of the European Society of Cardiology. He has numerous publications particularly concerning his two main areas of interest, namely cardiac electrophysiology and catheter ablation of arrhythmias. He is the current president of the European Heart Rhythm Association since June 2015.
